Badlands … my first stop (Cont)

The second “must see” was the monument of Crazy Horse. “Never forget your dreams,” Sculptor Korczak Xiolkowski remarked as he bagan this project. Recognition of our first nation brothers and sisters, the monument of Crazy Horse, speaks to the ways in which we took advantage of our indigenous brothers and sisters. The monument is still under construction as a way to continue the dream. The choice for the monument was Crazy Horse, a Lakota Leader. This is a memorial to all his people as he is reaching gesturing forward in response to the question, “Where are your lands now?” Crazy Horse replied, “My lands are where my dead lie buried.” May this monument and the museum remind us of our connections with our Native American brothers and sisters. At the end of my tour, there was a demonstration of hoop dancing, which was pretty incredible. The MC of the production asked for volunteers to learn the dance … I did not offer my services since it was a long ride back to the campground.

Hi, Jane. So glad you are doing this blog. Carmela and I did a 2 week tour of some of the National Parks several years ago and remember seeing some of these wonders! Sorry you did join the hoop dance!
