I’m having trouble uploading pictures from my time at Arches today so I thought I would share some experiences of people I’ve met.
On the trail …
No one walks these trails in the National Parks alone! What amazed me today was the diversity of languages. I wish I was astute enough to determine each one because it spoke of wonderful diversity. Today I followed – or at times they followed me – of a family from Asia. I was able to take a family picture on their journey. One of the little boys, knew one response – “Good morning!” I heard this greeting a number of times.
When I was walking a shorter trail the other day, I stopped in a shady area for a little break and to get some water. A woman passing by asked me if I was okay. Care and concern along the trail.
Campgrounds …
This is an interesting campground in Green River, about 45 minutes from Arches and a longer distance to Canyonlands. Folks are here for a night or two. Last night I couldn’t open the grate on my fire pit to start a fire, I enlisted the help of a neighbor. He suggested turning it upside down, which we did, he asked if I had lighter fluid and I replied that I had newspaper and a fire starter. He returned a bit later with lighter fluid and a “torch” to light the file. Tonight I started the fire with paper and the fire starter … an equally beautiful fire!
Next destination …
I am back-tracking a bit and heading north to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Will probably need layers. Will connect in a few days.
