Yellowstone – Day 1

A friend of mine asked me if I mind all the driving. I really don’t – the scenery along the way is pretty incredible. I was advised to get to the entrance gate around 8. Well, due to a number of things I arrived around 9:30. There was a line and traffic was stalled for about 15 minutes – I think it was a wildlife sighting but it was gone before I arrived at that point. One of the hikes that was recommended was the Lone Star Geyser – an easy 5 mile round trip. The hike took me throuhg a gentle path surrounded by a beautiful landscape. It was suggested that all hikers carry bear spray. I rented a can and returned it this evening unused! I came to learn that the geyser is not too predictable but was scheduled to erupt between 1 and 1:30. It was noon when I arrived and thought I was going to move on. Then, I realized that I had no schedule! I was not disappointed. I found a place to sit near a slow moving stream and simply listened to the sound of nature for the hour or so There may be a lesson there!
