A Day in the Redwoods

There is a saying … taking off like a herd of turtles! That describes the beginning of my day. I so enjoy the morning time. When I left today around 9:30 I was disappointed that it was cloudy – the first day where I didn’t have blue sky and sunshine. However, I realized that the fog rolled in overnight. It would be with me on and off for the day.

There are sections of the highway when redwoods are on both sides so there is a reminder to turn on headlights for several miles. This was especially true today with the fog. There are so many places to hike … and so few places where I can park with the camper van. However, I did a really nice hike – Trillium Falls. Unfortunately, the trillium were not blooming. Along the way i met about 7 people so it was a hike in which I enjoyed the silence and the rich vegetation all around me. Actually, the fog helps the redwoods. One thing I did not realize is that the redwoods, like the aspen, have a very narrow root system – they intertwine with others – great sense of community. I hoped to do the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail. However, once again, RVs were discouraged from driving the road leading to the trail. I thought best to avoid that!

Tonight I, like other RVers, I drove down to the ocean, heated up my chili and watched the sunset. Since it was cloudy I lowered my expectation but nature does not disappoint! Tomorrow is my day at camp – laundry, tidy up my tiny home – and, just maybe a trip to the beach! I wanted to see some of the lesser known parks so on Friday I head to Lessen Volcanic National Park. A little out of the way so finding a campground was a challenge but I am all set.
