I took today to explore via hiking trails the expansive Grand Canyon. One of the recommendations from the rangers was to hike into the canyon – the Bright Angels Hike. I did only a small portion of the trail – the full trail would take about 2 hours. While it was tempting, I wanted to explore other areas of the park. It was incredible being in the canyon.
The shuttle service in the park is incredible. The Blue Shuttle comes right to the campground. The shuttle to Hermits Point stops at nine different locations – each with a short hike and the option to hike to the next stop. I did just that – got off at certain points, walked to the incredible vistas and hiked to the next stop.
One path that was particularly memorable was the Trail of Time. Each long stride – not mine! – represents a million years. This gives a visual representation of the development of the canyon – although the exact number varies, it is about 5 – 6 million years old.
Heading to the Petrified Forest tomorrow.
