Day 5 – April 13, 2025 Ponte de Lima

Palm Sunday … what a gift to enter Holy Week as I am on the Camino. Today was a challenge but I completed almost the 20 miles. As I was entering the final 3 miles, a lovely woman, Rose, noticed I was struggling a bit and offered to take me the remaining distance. Rose has done the Camino and was concerned about this pilgrim. I am grateful. The pilgrims that have accompanied me these day were not present this morning. I was hoping to see them one more time, so, I set off alone, which I came to prefer. I was able to proceed at my pace, taking a 15-minute break every couple of hours or an hour in the afternoon. Today I met pilgrims from Taiwan, Hong Kong, England, and Portugal.

I became aware that the Department of Homeland Security sent an email to one million people who are considered migrants. People are working with individuals who decide to self-deport. This is so unjust. I walk with many intentions but the migrants continue to be with me.

20 miles is overwhelming-or anything close! Glad you are having this kind of experience during HW

20 miles with that type of footing in places is not easy – up or downhill! Keep it up Sr. Jane, love all the photos of your journey :).

I remember this walk. It’s not likely of the 20 milers I did training. We should warn future pilgrims to train on trails. Very different! Also – people kept telling me it was the longest walk of the Camino. I misinterpreted that to mean the hardest – HA! Tomorrow is the hardest! Seems like you’re making smart choices based on your capacities – keep it up!

Thanks for your support. I think we should find a training program up and down hills with cobblestones.
