I had a delightful visit with my cousin, Phyllis and her husband, Bob. We took a drive through Carmel-by-the Sea – thought I would include a picture of a lovely view.
When I checked into the campground, I was informed that any vehicle over 22″ cannot drive in the park. Our camper is 23″. Well, I decided to check out the park, which is about an hour drive from the campsite. I was delighted to find out that I could drive anywhere in the park. It is advised that vehicles over 22″ not drive the roads, due to the curvy nature of the roads. Well, after driving the road, I can understand! There are many turns whose speed limit is 10 or 15 mph, Needless to say, I pulled over a number of times to let others pass. It was a beautiful drive.
I hiked down (1/2 mile) to the General Sherman Tree (and a 1/2 mile up!). Elevation was at 7,000 ft with advice to take it slow going up. The General Sherman tree is the largest tree in volume. Some trivia – if the tree trunk could be filled with water, it would be enough for a bath every day for 27 years. Not sure how they arrived at that! I think I’ve seen the tallest, oldest and largest trees. As I’ve learned, the Redwood trees grow taller than the Sequoia; Sequoia trees are fast growing and more dense than a Redwood.
Another hike was the Congress Trail. I wondered about the name until I came across two groves – The Senate and The Congress. Unfortunately, I missed the Presidents Tree.
