Day 8 – April 16, 2025 Tui

What a wonderful gift to have a break day! I had a massage and feel my body resting. This morning I strolled around Tui – felt lost without my boots and my hiking poles! I just wanted to enjoy a bit of the city. The picture of the west door of the cathedral is well-known – picturing everyone from Moses to King Solomon and Queen of Sheba. I purchased a book on the Portuguese Camino that really begins in Tui. I’m enjoying reading about the history in a “folksy manner.” For instance, when the journey tomorrow is described the author states, “the Church of Santa Clara is usually open but the Convent of Clarissa cannot be visited, there are nuns inside!”

The rest of the day I relaxed, reading the Remembering of our sister Carola and catching up on some Netflix. I’m getting used to the restaurants opening in the evening at 7:30 or 8! There were many dining outside – it was in the upper 50s. Too cold for me so I dined inside.

I’ll be rested tomorrow and ready for the next 7 days!

Glad you got a rest. The next 7 days should be easier, more crowded (since many people start the Camino in Tui) but…it gets colder as you head north. Now that you are in Spain – Buen Camino!

Glad you got a moment of respite. I’m sure the massage was heaven. Your body and spirit must be getting so strong! Keep on ‘truckin,’ Jane. Oh and stay warm (that 50 degree temp would be cool to me, but I guess for walking it isn’t bad. 🙂 )

Jane–You have your trail rhythm now–some days of walking with rest days between. Glad you are able to take in and enjoy all the small moments and things that are the real essence of the journey.

No, walking is fine with those temps. Thanks for the continued affirmation. I’m going to do this!

Thanks so much, John. I am taking my time and, as folks have said, this is my Camino.
