Today was, hopefully, what I needed. After 5 days of walking, I got a reprieve today. Today was a U.S. day of sorts. Since I signed up for the 7:30 boat – depends on the tide – I went to breakfast at 6:45. There I met 2 women from North Carolina and a mother and daughter (7th grade) from D.C. Later on, at lunch, I met a man from New York. Santiago, our captain, narrated the trip – Spanish and English – but I didn’t pick up much. We traveled through one of the most established fishing communities in Galicia, particularly for mussels. Along the way is the only maritime Way of the Cross. Once we arrived in Padron, I walked about 1.5 miles to the hotel. Although I knew the room would not be ready, I am glad I took the earlier boat. I sat in a lovely courtyard in the sun and relaxed.
I am hoping that this day of rest gives me the energy to walk to Santiago, about 15 miles. I am forgoing breakfast and getting on the trail early, which will allow me enough time to reach Santiago mid- afternoon.
